Avengers: Doomsday Brings Marvel’s Screen Generations Together for December Release
Disney's announced ensemble spans the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four, with UK and US cinema dates listed separately for December 2026.
Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and James Marsden appear in Avengers: Doomsday’s announced ensemble alongside the newer Fantastic Four cast. The combination brings several generations of Marvel screen history into the same December release.
The UK studio announcement lists a December 16, 2026 cinema opening. Marvel’s US trailer announcement gives December 18. Those are regional dates, not two competing worldwide release claims.

Several teams bring different shared histories
Look at the contrast within the list. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden bring a long-established screen relationship with the X-Men. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn represent a different Fantastic Four ensemble. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan bring another set of shared history.
That gives the film several kinds of audience memory to work with. Some viewers arrive carrying decades of attachment to one group; others are following the latest team. The opening question for a crossover is how quickly those existing relationships can become understandable to someone who knows only part of that history.
The list identifies performers rather than explaining every character’s role in the crossover. Familiar faces supply a starting point for audience expectations, while the story still has to establish who each person is in this particular conflict.
Robert Downey Jr. takes on Doctor Doom
Marvel’s film page identifies Downey with Doctor Doom. His return creates immediate recognition, but the story still has to make the antagonist’s aims legible inside this new collision of worlds.
The ensemble gives that antagonist several kinds of loyalties to confront. Teams with established relationships and people still learning to work together may agree on a threat while disagreeing about the response. That is the dramatic opportunity created by the lineup, rather than a disclosed plot sequence.
This page follows the announced Doomsday ensemble. For the next film’s separate credits and comic background, our Secret Wars overview keeps that material together instead of treating this lineup as an automatic sequel cast list.
For viewers, a crossover also has to work with partial familiarity. Someone following the Fantastic Four may not carry the same memories as a longtime X-Men viewer. Scenes that establish a shared objective and show conflicting priorities could make those relationships understandable without requiring a complete franchise recap.
